Relaxing in the pool takes on a whole new meaning when it is suspended high above the city with a view across the Waitemata Harbour.

Frontier Pools installed a swimming pool and spa for Stamford Residences to share with Stamford Plaza.The main challenge for the company was building an indoor pool 11 storeys up, says managing director Neil Runciman. The new pools needed to be absolutely watertight, so Frontier Pools used multiple layers of membranes.

The old hotel pool was open to the elements in its rooftop site. Frontier Pools, a specialist in the construction of concrete pools, built the new pool in the same spot but now it is indoors on the first level of the 10-storey extension for Stamford Residences.

Diamond Brite plaster finish was used for the 12m by 5m rectangular pool. Italian KlinkerSire tiles and grills were used to create a gutter edge. Rolachem automated chemical monitoring keeps the pool clean and safe.

The elliptical fibreglass spa is encircled by Bisazza tiles. Both the pool and spa feature fibre optic lighting and ozone water filtration.
