New Zealand's changeable climate means our homes are exposed to moisture from rain and ground contact on almost a daily basis. For this reason, when undertaking a new home project it pays to ward off the potential of rot or water damage from the outset.

Koppers Tanalised® C technology greatly extends the life of today's construction timbers by intensifying the wood's own natural defences, says marketing manager Peter Carruthers.

The home featured on these pages was constructed by Andrew Brown of Andrew Brown Construction. Situated in a harsh climatic environment, the home's underlying structure is built from timber treated with Tanalised protection.

"Often it's what you don't see that can make all the difference to the life of a building project," says Brown. "We used Tanalised treated timber on this job to ensure the structural framework and decking wouldn't deteriorate under the presence of moisture. For the small extra outlay, the payback in terms of future-proofing the home is significant."

Tanalised-treated timber is available in a range of treatments to suit all building needs. For example, the heavy-duty in-ground posts offer an H5 rating. Decking and interior timbers have an H3 rating, and are also suitable for fences, sheds and outdoor seating.

The treated wood is sourced from ecologically friendly, sustainable pine forests. Once treated, it bears all the attributes of slow-growing hardwood timbers.

Tanalised products have a distinctive diamond-shaped logo, and are available in several different treatments, all with the Tanalised guarantee. The guarantees range from 25 years for interior timbers to 50 years for heavy-duty in-ground posts.

Treated wood products with Tanalised protection are available from many producers and suppliers throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia, the Pacific islands and South Africa.
