To provide an architectural roofing material that could withstand high wind loads, the architect of this house specified Rheinzink pre-weathered zinc
Sustainability and durability are right at the top of the list for most people choosing roofing materials today. But aesthetics is also a key consideration.
To meet these requisites for this new contemporary house, the Hill Thalis Architecture + Urban Projects architectural team specified Rheinzink pre-weathered roofing. This was supplied by Craft Metals and installed by Architectural Roofing & Wall Cladding (ARC).
Greg Cunningham, general manager of ARC, says the firm worked closely with the architect and project engineer to ensure the system was designed to accommodate the excessive wind loads expected on the exposed NSW headland.
"Stainless steel fixing clips were used to install the double standing seam system on plywood and membrane. But we provided additional clips to the perimeter of the cladding areas, as well as galvanised steel-reinforced flashings, to meet the requirements for this project."
Several exterior walls and soffits were clad in the Rheinzink pre-weathered H25 system. Cunningham says perforated Rheinzink mesh was soldered to the ends of the panels to allow heat build-up behind the panels to be vented. This reduces heat transfer to the inside of the house.
"Increasingly, ARC is using ventilated panels to meet the demand for sustainable systems that minimise the need for air conditioning," he says. "Rheinzink also has other environmental benefits. Energy consumption during zinc extraction and processing is very low and emissions are reduced to a minimum, thanks to the latest high-tech manufacturing equipment."
Cunningham says other Rheinzink benefits include extreme durability and suitability for recycling.
Established in 1993, ARC is a leading specialist metal roofing company. Cunningham says the firm's extensive knowledge and skill set, combined with a commitment to innovation and excellence has ensured ARC has a reputation for quality workmanship.
"Our commitment to quality and the latest technology is reflected in the training provided to our workforce, from apprentices right through to our senior management," he says.
