"We wanted to create something that was ground-breaking a clean-edged building that was a genuine step forward in the architectural landscape of the city," says Poole.
Freshwater Place creates the experience of a neighbourhood in the centre of the city. A broad choice of shops, including a grocer and other convenience stores, cafes and restaurants, brings life to the area, making it attractive to both residents and office workers.
In addition to the 60-level apartment tower, Freshwater Place includes a 38-storey tower with 50,000m² of high-rise office accommodation, a podium level offering around 5000m² of low-rise office space, and secure car parking.
Residents have a choice of apartments. Stretching up above the ground floor retail village to level 10, the podium apartments are split level, terrace-style homes orientated towards the north, to guarantee occupants both views and natural light.
As with the podium housing, the apartment interiors are fresh and contemporary designed by architects Bates Smart to stand the test of time. The interiors maximise light and space, and feature neutral colours that allow occupants to decorate according to their own personal tastes. Natural surface finishes, such as stone and timber, were chosen for long-lasting appeal. A range of textures, including matt and full-gloss paints, polished stainless steel and mirrors, enhance the light and open spaces.
