An award-winning home has to meet a raft of criteria laid down by competition organisers. Along with the quality of the construction, there are design factors and the use of materials to be taken into consideration.

All these factors came together in the home featured on these pages. Built by Frame Developments, the house won the Best Showhome category of the Master Builders Home of the Year Award.

A key element that helped determine the look of the home was the use of Palliside cladding. Director Mark Frame says his company frequently specifies Palliside weatherboards for a variety of reasons.

"The cladding is a cost-effective option," he says. "It is quick and easy to install and it suits the contemporary design of our homes. We also appreciate the fact that the boards don't need painting we simply put them up and they're ready to go. Homeowners find their low maintenance is a further benefit."

For this house, Palliside Traditional weatherboards in the colour Tea were specified. A reconstituted stone chimney and tapered column provide a textural contrast to the cladding at the entrance.

Palliside business manager Richard McGechie says while Palliside is mainly used on new homes, it is also well suited to additions and re-cladding projects.

"Palliside provides the natural shadow-lines of timber weatherboards. The boards can also be handled and cut like timber," he says.

Palliside is available in two profiles: Rusticated, in either a smooth or new Woodgrain finish, and Traditional, a bevel-backed profile with a smooth finish. Each profile is available in a number of colours and comes with a full range of finishing accessories.
