A home for all seasons

The architectural vision from which a house springs to life is just the beginning. From here, the entire project team must ensure everything from the cladding to the interior aesthetics plays its part in realising the original intention.

This Jennian Homes-built family home was designed by Lifestyle Architectural Services, with a basic design concept from the owner, who was formerly a builder.

The substantial residence makes a feature of external support arches, and with multiple French doors opening onto a wooden veranda, offers exceptional indoor-outdoor flow.

To augment the home's character, the owner requested Palliside Traditional weatherboards, which were installed by professional installer Taylor Superclad.

While Jennian often uses Palliside cladding, the owner says he wanted the product installed on this house because it is built specifically for New Zealand weather conditions.

"The Palliside 25-year guarantee was also a key factor for me."

The majority of the house is clad in white Palliside, but for textural contrast the owner asked Jennian Homes to face the remainder of the exterior in a Rockcote plaster, painted in Resene Quarter Tapa.

Besides finding the combination of plaster and weatherboards aesthetically pleasing, the owner was also impressed with the installation.

"Taylor Superclad achieved a great job, that showed meticulous attention to detail," he says.

This is not surprising, as John Lynn of Taylor Superclad often pairs up with Jennian Homes on projects. In total, he has installed Palliside weatherboards on more than 1000 homes.

"From my perspective, the low upkeep of this weatherboard system is a major advantage for our clients it only needs a light wash once a year, or even every few years. There is no rigmarole of scaffolding, paint and associated labour costs every few years so no ongoing expense.

"The Palliside Traditional weatherboard is most often used on classic homes as it offers the shadow lines and definition of bevel-back weatherboards. However, it translates well into contemporary designs, such as with this home."

Taylor Superclad has been working with Palliside weatherboards for more than 12 years. In all that time, there has never been any comeback on this product, Lynn says.
