Finding the best way to design a new kitchen that suits every aspect of an owner's lifestyle is a subtle art.

It's partly what inspired kitchen designer Marianne Gailer to launch the Mobile Kitchen Design Company. It allows homeowners to investigate many different options and solutions with specialist kitchen designers, in their own homes.

Gailer takes her mobile showroom van to an owner's home, where they can look at, try out and touch handles, hardware and benchtops in a wide range of colours and materials. Gailer can then bring samples and colour swatches into their kitchen for on-the-spot advice.

Travelling to people's homes also gives Gailer and her designers important clues about what the owners want from their new kitchen clues that couldn't be gleaned from a visit to a showroom.

"By meeting owners in their own homes I get a real feel for how they live and what they want," she says.

On the first visit Gailer uses her kitchen planning and interior design skills to produce 3D colour drawings, a quotation and a plan for how she'll manage their kitchen renovation.
