5 technologies to create the ultimate smart bathroom

When planning your renovations for the year ahead, why not consider giving your bathroom a 21st century update?

The bathroom isn’t traditionally a technologically-friendly place. After all, water and electronics rarely mix well together!

The truth is, however, that there are now a number of new technologies out there that are entirely waterproof and can make going to the bathroom even more pleasurable than it already is.

Here are my picks for the best smart bathroom technologies for you to choose from.

Bathroom TV

It used to be that you’d have to choose between an elaborate morning ritual or watching the morning news. This choice is no longer necessary. A TV in the bathroom is now a relatively affordable option.

If the idea of drinking a glass of chardonnay in the bathtub as you catch up on your favourite show appeals to you, then this is the way to go.

Move on from toilet paper

Think about it. How old fashioned is toilet paper? I mean, it’s basically one step beyond scraping ourselves with leaves. Isn’t it about time for an update?

The new bidet system which doesn’t just neatly wash your bum but also dries it is an obvious choice. No more rubbing yourself raw. It makes sense.

As an added bonus, it is far greener and much better for our rivers and our sewer systems. After all, the amount of paper that gets flooded through them is astounding.

That’s not even the end of it. Have you considered the advantage of something like this for those who have bad mobility and normally have to go through the unpleasantness of having somebody else involved. That’s no longer the case when you get this system. And so they can once again go to the toilet on their own time and without letting anybody else know.

Smart taps and showers

Imagine a tap that recognises who you are and automatically gives you a shower at the temperature you desire based on past experiences. This would be pretty cool right? No more fighting with the faucet to get the water to a perfect temperature.

Shower speakers

Want a shower speaker so that you can listen to your morning tunes without waking up the rest of the house?

That’s now possible. You can now buy shower speakers which will allow you to take that warm gentle music that you like to wake up with right into the shower with you. Or you can head bang to death metal. That’s fun under the shower too.

Toilet seat warmers

Okay, it’s not exactly smart technology. But it’s nice. I mean, who wants to put their bum on something that gives them goose bumps? Better to have a warm throne where you can sit until your entire business is done. Heck, I’ve even taken to doing some of my writing work from these babies.

And if that’s not enough for you, then consider getting a toilet seat which cleans itself. I mean, none of us enjoy that part of our daily routine, so why not have that automated?

Bathroom privacy glass

Sometimes you want to see the world. Sometimes you don’t want the world to see you. So why not get special glass that can be turned transparent and opaque with the touch of a button?

With this installed it suddenly becomes entirely possible to have floor to ceiling glass in your bathroom so that you can look out when you’re doing innocuous things, while still giving you the absolute privacy you need when you take that shower or get into the bath. The best of both worlds at the touch of a button.

Sonic toothbrush

And finally, to give your mouth that extra bit of care, why not consider a sonic toothbrush? It will clean your teeth more effectively than a regular one will.

That’s in part because they just feel so damned good on your teeth, which means that you’re far more likely to actually go the minimum of two minutes as you’re supposed to. And that means better teeth hygiene.
