2018 TIDA New Zealand Designer New Home Winner – O'Neil Architecture

This large, modern family home sits on a semi- rural site with established weeping willows. So the initial challenge was to design a home that retained these beautiful trees.
The site was large enough for the house to be spread out, to fit around the trees, resulting in a timeless, layered design which complements the surrounding greenery.
Large overhangs balance out the dominant use of glass, providing shade and protection.
Despite the expansive nature of the home, it still creates a sense of comfort and intimacy through carefully sized, open-plan, mult-use interior areas, and by varying ceiling heights.
The TIDA judges noted how this elegant home is perfectly designed to meet changing family needs as well as accommodating guests and entertaining.
