This old Devonport villa had previously been renovated in the 1980s and was badly in need of modernising.
In particular, it needed opening up – existing living, dining and kitchen were all separate rooms and it was poorly connected to the outdoors.
Internalising the garage by escavating rather than raising the house, reclaimed the garden and also created enough space for a downstairs guest suite and study.
The major change was to combine the kitchen, dining and living rooms into one space and opening this up to a new entertaining deck, pool and space via a wall of sliding glass doors.
The result is a successful transformation that retains a very traditional feel to the exterior, while the interior layout is that of a modern home.
