Design: Damian Hannah About the project: My clients were renovating their Ngaio home and wanted a large kitchen in a small space and were struggling with their design.

I was engaged to come up with a functional design that would maximise their space and provide a welcoming open kitchen that incorporated their wish list.

They love to entertain and wanted a kitchen that could accommodate more than one chef at a time and also wanted a large fridge and a dining table in the middle of the kitchen but they could not find the room.

Initially they investigated a scullery but after consultations we decided that a larger open plan kitchen would allow them a more functional space with more room for their appliances and create a centralised dining table for entertaining and family gathering.

I worked with the architect to remove a few walls and create a recess in the hallway to accommodate the Tall Pantry Cupboards. We removed a high window on the rear wall that starred at nothing but the neighbours fence and created large skylights to bring in borrowed light.

I then set about working on a large ‘L’ shape design to create a functional kitchen that had a preparation area, wash up area and serving area.

I positioned all the tall cabinetry at each end to balance the design.

The large continuous benchtop allows for plenty of usable space and the fridge is easily

accessed without entering too far into the kitchen.

Working with the clients on the interior colours we created a stunning Matt Black Laminate

To tie it all in together we specified the Black Tap and F&P Appliances

The final touch was the hexagonal Carrara Marble tiles.
