With the New Year fast approaching, it is the perfect time to start looking at the upcoming interior trends for 2018. What better time of year to experiment with new trends and update your home for a fresh start to the New Year. With summer party season and entertaining family and friends, you’ll be set to impress with your on-trend looks!

Justine Wilson, Director and Principal Stylist at Vault Interiors says, “2018 is expected to be an exciting year in the world of interiors! Existing trends are continuously changing with newer trends gaining inspiration from the previous, along with some completely new styles emerging. Japandi is a great example of this, taking inspiration from the much-loved scandi. I think the new Raw Earth look will become dominating trend with its similarities to Nordic and raw rustic features.”

Justine shares her top trends for the year ahead to help transform your home:

1. Deep accent colours

Colours such as plum, emerald and navy will dominate Luxe look interior schemes. Materials such as faux fur and velvet will remain on trend and appear in both bedroom and living room styling.

2. Glam it up

Glam and regency style appear in hotel designs (think the Hydro Majestic and the Langham), whilst furniture retailers are embracing metallic materials and elegant look items. Things such as replica faux bamboo trim and bold acrylic furniture items feature with this trend. Find these looks in shops like the Vignette Room, Coco Republic and Pottery Barn.

3. Japandi

A twist on the hugely popular “scandi” look that’s been trending over the last few years, this a similar look in line and design but with more dark wood tones. Think grey, black and wedge accents more likely to be mint green and deep blue over soft pink and soft blue.

4. Raw Earth

Similar to the Nordic look that has been popular but with more raw rustic looking furniture cuts and items that look like they have been found and fashioned by craftsmen, very simplistic and very rural. A lot of found objects like feathers, shells, coral, handmade wooden objects and twigs instead of floral displays will start to grace design magazine pages.

Raw Earth includes pieces including timber stools that look like tree trunks, sisal rugs, very neutral accents and manuals like calico, hemp and wool being used with a mix of linen in greys beiges and white.

5. Rounded edges

Very angular sharp looking furniture has been really popular for a long time with simple lines, however, there are more designs popping up with chunkier frames and very round or organic looking overall. Interestingly the colour of the furniture may be painted in primary colours and be almost reminiscent of childhood, think wooden toys and coloured playing boxes for a guide on colour and feel.Find out more about Justine Wilson and Vault Interiors here.
