Working well together
This kitchen, created by Interior Design Concepts, provides enough space for the whole family
In the past, there wasn't a great need for space in the residential kitchen it was simply a place to prepare food. However, the modern kitchen has developed into a much more versatile area, and one that is used by the whole family.
Before being re-designed by Maria Telfar from Interior Design Concepts, the kitchen featured on this page could only fit one person at a time. This didn't suit the four-person family who owned it, says the designer.
"The kitchen and eating area were combined to create a larger, contemporary kitchen that was sensitive to the existing traditional style of the house. When designing, my number-one priority is the use of space and the creation of flow."
Telfar's training in architectural draughting helps her see how a room fits in a house. She also has an eye for how a space can be made more workable.
It is due to these skills and an effective use of materials, such as glass benchtops and timber veneer that Telfar was recently awarded the Wellington Regional NKBA Best Kitchen Award for this design.
Telfar has over 16 years' experience in the industry. She is certified through the NKBA as both a kitchen and bathroom designer.
