Winning formula
Sustainable design initiatives and expansive tiered landscaping helped seal the deal this project by Rustic Touch has won a major HIA-CSR award
Many architects and designers today are not just giving lip service to the idea of sustainability they are making it a key feature of every project.
This award-winning house, which was extensively renovated by Rustic Touch, reflects the company's commitment to healthy, eco-friendly living environments. It's an approach that has paid dividends for Rustic Touch the house was the 2009 HIA-CSR Hunter Housing Awards Renovation and Additions Project of the Year.
Director Debra Turner says the house, in Matcham Valley on the NSW Central Coast, was redesigned to maximise the expansive views and the sun.
"Keeping within the existing footprint, we completely changed the layout and repositioned the living area on the north side of the house," she says. "We also created spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and walk-in dressing room."
Natural materials feature on both the exterior and interior. Clear-sawn cedar, recycled hardwood beams and posts, and limestone feature walls complement the landscaping. Inside, polished jarrah floors and a large limestone fireplace define the open-plan living area.
Turner, an accredited Green Smart professional, says all Rustic Touch homes are fully custom designed.
