Two major drivers in modern architecture are the quest for abundant natural light and heat retention over the cooler winter months. Once mutually exclusive, they now come together in high-tech window systems that can open to the surroundings, but when closed, lock in your desired air temperature.

The ThermAcolour Designer Series created by Aluminium Systems has several advantages when it comes to intelligent house design, says head of marketing Rod Andrews.

"The 45mm suite offers superior thermal insulation stopping heat or cold in its tracks, depending on the season," says Andrews. "Rolled thermal break technology prevents any transfer through the window frames. Combined with double glazing, this technology provides a highly energy-efficient environment meaning savings on heating and air conditioning costs."

Reduction of moisture and condensation makes for a more healthy home for your family, while double glazing has the benefit of acoustic insulation, resulting in quieter interior spaces.

The high-tech window system is bonded by an Italian-designed, co-extruded EPDM seal for maximum air and weathertightness.

Another advantage of the ThermAcolour Designer Series is its dual composition. Because the windows are separated into interior and exterior components, there is the opportunity to mix and match colours inside and outside. There are 40 standard colours, three anodised tones and 22 Eurocote colours meaning there is an almost limitless number of combinations.

H-Faktor thermally improved entrance doors complete a broad range of design options.

"Homeowners will also appreciate the fact that the system is extremely long lasting and corrosion resistant both characteristics of its all-aluminium construction. This in turn means it is very low maintenance."
