The electrical engineering design of both the 7 London Circuit project and the neighbouring 18 Marcus Clarke building was focused on achieving a 4½-Star AGBR (Australian Green Building Rating). Project director Phil Stennett and senior engineer Shirley Pun of Webb Australia Group say the company designed the electrical systems based on recommendations by The Property Council of Australia.

"Webb Australia undertook the design of both buildings simultaneously, specifying similar systems," says Shirley Pun. "However, 18 Marcus Clarke has a rotary-type Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and a diesel generator system for short and long-term backup, while 7 London Circuit has a smaller UPS system for short-term backup."

Energy-efficient T5 fluorescent lighting, incorporating high-frequency ballasts, is installed throughout the office areas. All the lighting is controlled by the Energy Conservation System MLS, utilising occupancy sensors with time delays for energy savings.

Architectural feature lighting is installed in public spaces, such as the entrance foyers, atriums, winter garden, lift lobbies and office break-out areas. The lighting is designed to enhance different design themes and to provide a friendly environment.

The communications infrastructure is provided by the base-building telecommunications backbone cabling, and a tenant structured cabling system.

"The structured cabling system is one of the first installations of the Category 6A, Systimax VisiPatch 360 structured cabling system," says Pun. "It is the world's largest installation to date of VisiPatch 360, and the first to incorporate Consolidation Points."
