Cabinetry extends to the ceiling. In a home on a vineyard where the owners grow their own grapes and produce their own wine, it's likely the kitchen will be witness to more than the occasional bottle being opened and enjoyed in the company of friends.Taking this into consideration, kitchen designer Catherine Shackford of Northbay Kitchen & Bath decided that a wine bar should be a feature when the owners decided to install a new kitchen in their weekend retreat in the Napa Valley. A wine bar, with its own sink, has been designed to look like a hutch. The original kitchen had extra-high ceilings and a jumble of cupboards, so Shackford simplified the design. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry with backlit glass upper doors keeps the space looking light and airy, and accentuates the lofty verticality. The owners enjoy entertaining, so the new wine bar includes a large wine cooler and storage space for drinking glasses and bottle openers. With glazing in the doors of the upper cabinets, the bar looks like a hutch, enhancing the relaxing, country style of the kitchen.
