Planning a new kitchen is seldom straightforward even in a new house. But this doesn't mean you have to compromise your wish list. With the right help, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Members of the National Kitchen & Bathroom Association (NKBA) have the experience and training to find innovative solutions to almost any design challenge, be it a space issue or unusual request.

But the NKBA is not just about design expertise and product knowledge. The association includes contractors and manufacturers who can assist in building your new kitchen or bathroom.

Patricia Brown, CKD, NKBA Northern California president, says the association promotes professionalism among members, monitors standards and fosters excellence in design, manufacture and installation. The association also monitors the ethics and behavior of affiliated trades.

NKBA members stay abreast of current trends by attending Professional Development Courses that raise the bar for kitchen and bath design, says Brown.

"Homeowners can rest assured they are dealing with a highly trained and experienced professional. Hiring an NKBA member will also save money in the long run by avoiding costly mistakes. There can be other cost savings as well, with members able to source products at competitive rates."

The expertise of its members is highlighted by the annual NKBA Design Competition, with awards presented annually at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). Projects are judged on safety, functionality and visual appeal.

Another resource provided by the association is the Kitchen & Bath Consumer Workbook. This handy reference guide includes remodeling tips and answers to common questions.
