Three small rooms became one large L-shaped room that is much better suited to modern living requirements. The expanded space in the kitchen area allowed room for a large island that incorporates a zebrano veneer-topped table. To contrast the natural wood veneer, the rest of the island features a Quarella quartz benchtop and Mal Corboy custom Decoglaze colourbacked glass cabinets in an intense brown shade. Perimeter cabinetry beneath the window features a high-gloss white lacquer.LED lighting in toekicks, around the edge of benchtops and encircling the custom hood enlivens the kitchen, with the perimeter cabinets appearing to hover above the floor. The counterpiece is a large L shape island with intergral table. Topped in zebrano wood veneer . The main benchtops are quartz. Not surprisingly, the dated appliances were also replaced, with Corboy recommending Smeg appliances."I particularly like the crisp lines of the Smeg Linea oven series, which I specify for many of my projects," the designer says. "For a European model, the price point is also very competitive."Corboy specified the Smeg SAP109-8 thermosealed, pyrolytic oven, which has an extra-large 68-litre oven. The thermoseal insulation creates a particularly stable environment for improved cooking performance. The Everclean enamelling provides a silky smooth finish on the oven interior and baking trays. The oven pairs well with the Smeg warming drawer.Corboy teamed the oven with the Smeg 75cm gas hob that is recessed into the benchtop. The sleek, streamlined look complements the design of the kitchen. The cooktop features five burners and cast iron trivets. View of kitchen. The Smeg SR640X side-by-side refrigerator, also shown, has stainless steel pole handles and a toekick. This refrigerator features fingerproof 430-grade all-satin stainless steel doors and handles.A fully integrated Smeg 60cm dishwasher completes the line-up. As with all Smeg dishwashers, this model has an orbital wash system that ensures an effective and efficient wash each time. The dishwasher has also been designed to accommodate items with unusual shapes. Quietness is another benefit insulation and shock-absorbing dampeners ensure the operating noise is barely perceptible. For more information, visit the website: www.smeg.co.nz. Or www.malcorboy.com.
