At 92 storeys, it's the tallest residential building in the world. Melbourne's Eureka Tower is also scaling new heights in apartment design and fit-out

While the innovative architecture of Eureka Tower sets it apart, it did create a challenge for the company that won the contract to develop and supply plasterboard products and systems for the project.

Boral Plasterboard product manager Victor Avrutis says the company had to develop a new lightweight separating wall system that would satisfy the fire and acoustic insulation requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), and would also meet design and construction objectives.

"The major challenge was to meet these requirements within the constraints of the project," he says. "A new product, EurekaWall¢, was developed by adopting the successful low-rise, multi-residential PartiWall® technology for high-rise apartments."

The foundation of the system is the EurekaWall Membrane, made up of two layers of 25mm-thick ShaftLiner¢ plasterboard, nestled between 51mm-deep I studs. Additional face linings can be direct fixed, or installed, on furring channels or freestanding studs, ensuring the system can be adapted to a variety of projects.
