From the architect:The clients are keen amateur cooks and wanted a kitchen that would make it easy to take the perfect Instagram shot of meals. To achieve this, the galley kitchen and island bench include carefully considered lighting and neutral splashbacks.Visually, the material palette is restrained: the white marble and timber benchtop is complemented with simple white joinery and black custom steel staircase and day bed.The clients wanted a kitchen that would accommodate their love for hosting friends and family. The island bench and galley configuration enables this interaction within the narrow footprint available. A timber day bed seat with built in cushion on folded steel plate end with waterfall edge sits to one side of the space, while the breakfast bar borrows circulation space. This enables family and friends to interact without interfering with food preparation.A subtle delineation between kitchen and adjoining living areas is provided by timber steps to dining area that finish short of pool wall. The supports interaction with the living area.Appliances include a wide (900mm) oven, induction cooktop, gas wok burner, fully integrated glass front wine fridge, double-door fridge and standalone freezer. Generous pantry space resolved with pull out pantries are included. Kitchen steps are mass concrete tiled with slate marble with a brass trim edge.Burnished concrete floors throughout.
