As the major subcontractor on the Collins Square redevelopment of the future Tabcorp offices in Melbourne, Balcross were challenged with creating the PTID designed internal fit-out of a new 5 Star NABERS energy rated building over five floors.

A unique feature of this fit-out was the requirement to internally connect levels eighteen and nineteen, something that was achieved by installing an interconnecting stairwell between the floors. This required cutting out the concrete slab between these floors, installing over eleven tonne of structural steel and the unique spiral staircase you see in the images attached to this article. The Staircase linked to the existing inter-tenancy stairs, thus creating a five-story void from level seventeen to twenty-one all of which was enclosed by slab to ceiling bent glass panels.

Glasshapes contribution to the project started with the digital scanning process, measuring the floor to ceiling voids created, using our Faro laser scanning technology. This allowed us to determine the exact floor to ceiling panel height as well as establish the radius required for the bent glass panels. To complete the project we supplied 45 panels 3,200mm (10’6”) high x 1,210mm (3′ 12”) girth.

The completed Collins Square fit-out will provide Tabcorp with an environment that promotes business efficiency, modern technology, environmental sustainability and workplace health and wellbeing.
