Whether you are investigating your first home theatre system, or looking to update your existing setup, you could well be feeling a little overwhelmed by the exercise.

And you probably have a host of questions that need answering. Plasma or LCD? Which surround sound system? What do all those technical terms mean? And what about high definition technology?

To help you sort through the maze of home theatre options, Harvey Norman stores have teams of highly trained and experienced consultants on hand. And of course, the stores also showcase all the audiovisual technology so you can make an informed choice.

Product manager Mark Baillie says the company supplies global brands that highlight international trends in technology and styling. Leading names include Panasonic, Sony, Sharp, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Yamaha, Wharfedale, Toshiba, B&W, Belkin, LG, Onkyo, Klipsch and Monster Cable.

"All these companies have built fine reputations and have been around for a long time, so consumers can have every confidence in their purchase," says Baillie.

"Not surprisingly, this is a very dynamic industry. The technology presented by these brands is constantly changing, as product lines are updated and new features are introduced. But all these suppliers have very good support systems in place. In addition, they take an active role in our staff training."

Baillie says staff members are also trained to find the audiovisual solution that best meets a customer's needs.

"We like to think of it as a consultation process as opposed to a sales transaction. By listening to what the customer's requirements are and asking the right questions, we find that there is a solution to most issues."

Harvey Norman can also help customers financially by offering competitive finance terms on purchases.

"Our service doesn't just end with a sale, however," Baillie says. "Harvey Norman has trained installation teams throughout the country, so the whole process can be managed by our staff in conjunction with the customer. We also provide an after-sales service should a customer have any queries or concerns."

All Harvey Norman audiovisual products come with warranties, which can be extended if required.

Harvey Norman has 24 retail stores throughout New Zealand. For the address of your nearest store, check out the Yellow Pages, or contact Harvey Norman, freephone 0800 422 423.
