tata Steel's work of art
Smooth satin-finish stainless steel is the finishing touch for the Auckland Art Gallery
Form and function are close bedfellows in architecture, and materials that maintain their aesthetic appeal while fulfilling their function are going to be first-choice products.
"Tata Steel was contracted to supply satin-finished stainless steel for the exterior facade of Auckland Art Gallery," says product manager David van Beusekom. "Of concern was the fact that this product is susceptible to staining, particularly in the Auckland marine environment."
Fortunately, the company has experience in resolving such issues. When Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre required replacement panels, Tata Steel worked in conjunction with the Nickel Institute to formulate a solution, further refining the finishing process, says van Beusekom.
"The Tata 316 satin finish stainless steel was identified as the ideal product for the gallery. Tata Steel is committed to assisting the construction industry whenever stainless steel is being used."
