A limestone fireplace provides a welcoming focal point in the home's living area
Limestone is a material synonymous with European art and architecture. For this home's limestone fireplace, MF Design contracted The Natural Stone Fireplace Company.
Mark Whyman from The Natural Stone Fireplace Company has been in the stonemasonry trade for more than 30 years, initially specialising in architectural restoration. Mark Whyman says this training provided him with the skills and techniques required to create proportionally accurate and aesthetically pleasing fire surrounds and architectural features.
"All of my work is hand-carved from European and New Zealand stone. I can personalise fire surrounds with family crests, or any individual designs," he says.
In keeping with the Italian design theme of this home, the fireplace was hand-carved with a rose image. The homeowner says this fireplace was designed to be central to the formal area, with the rose representing both the feminine form and love.
