George Grant Engineering (GGE) supplied and built the steel skeleton, says general manager Scott Delacey."While the main framing was quite straightforward, there were some tricky aspects to this project. Once the precast concrete panels were set in place and propped up, our team craned in the steel frame elements and fixed them into place. The blade walls create an attractive feature, but they have a challenging structural configuration the fins are embedded in the foundation from beneath, and supported across the top by framing. The new 1500-seat auditorium can accommodate all puplis and staf at the same time adding to the sense of community spirit. "We also worked closely with subcontractor Alfa Ceilings to create structural variations that would respond precisely to the acoustically angled ceiling planes in the auditorium."With limited room to manoeuvre, sequencing was important on this project. We waited until the main auditorium was covered before we introduced the separate steel structure for the protruding stage."The company also created the attractive canopy framework that connects the new building to an existing school structure.
