Statement dressing colour contrasts enhance street appeal

A bright pop of colour can transform a house exterior. For this house on a long, narrow site, it's the black weatherboards and bright red accents that enhance the street appeal.

The house, designed by Architecture Smith + Scully, is painted in Resene Waterborne Woodsman CoolColour Pitch Black. The design team says this colour was chosen so the house could sit quietly amid the eclectic neighbouring properties.

But the stain was also chosen for its reflectivity. Resene CoolColour reflects more of the sun's heat than traditional colours reducing heat buildup and stress in the coating and substrate.

Black pilasters at the front of the house create a strong visual rhythm that draws the eye toward the entry and the front door, which is vibrant and inviting. Resene Pulse was chosen to create a vivid contrast to the black and to provide a cheerful welcome.

The house also features cut-away courtyards to the east and west, which reveal a soft light green that tones in with the landscaping. Resene Poprock was chosen for the black-edged walls beside the courtyards.
