For this financial fit-out, acoustics were crucial
Providing complete privacy for both clients and staff attending meetings was a key goal for NDY Sound, a division of Norman Disney & Young (NDY) the company that provided acoustic engineering services on the fit-out.
The process entailed working with the architects and client at an early stage, so that UBS's sound isolation requirements were met throughout the design and construction of the fit-out, says acoustic engineer David Luck. An integrated acoustics grade rating system was used to assess each stage of design and construction and identify key areas of the fit-out, such as the mechanical air conditioning system.
A team of sound engineers from NDY Sound conducted construction audits throughout the project, to check that works met the acoustic specifications. Walls, ceilings, and potential weak points, such as mullions and junctions, were subject to regular sound tests and, where necessary, irregularities were reported so that they could be rectified immediately.
"All the works passed our tests, which was a reflection of the detailed analysis early on in the project, and our relationship with the builder, client and project management team," he says.
The importance of acoustic services is growing, says Luck.
"The density of human occupation is increasing and the influence of noise on human health and well being is recognised," he says. "Acoustic engineering in commercial spaces requires a solid understanding of clients' needs and a strong level of co-ordination among all disciplines. Our approach to office fit-outs allows innovative and advanced solutions to modern architectural concepts."
