Resort style
Terraced pools and lush landscaping enhance this Balinese poolscape by Mayfair Pools. They also help to tame the steep site
Memories of tropical resort holidays, and long, lazy days spent lounging around a pool can be a strong design influence for homeowners embarking on a landscaping project.
For the owners of this new pool, it was their holidays in Bali that determined the overall theme. Richard Rowley of Designer Pools a Mayfair Pools agent says the owners wanted to capture a lush, tranquil look reminiscent of a Balinese resort.
"As the site was very steep, we needed to terrace the land with stone retaining walls. This provided an opportunity to create tropical lily pools at each level, with a waterfall and stepping stones further enhancing the Balinese theme."
The main pool curves around the site, with one end built above the ground, due to the slope. A timber trellis provides a safety fence, and was designed to complement a freestanding pergola.
The pool, which is edged with mosaic tiles, features a Blue Steel finish. The water is treated by an ozone system.
Mayfair Pools specialises in custom-built fibreglass pools that can be manufactured to any size and shape. Rowley says contemporary poolscapes often include spa pools, innovative fibre-optic lighting and special water features, such as sheer-descent waterfalls.
The company, which has been in business for more than 35 years, has a network of agents throughout the country.
