Reflected glory
This sleek kitchen combines a minimalist aesthetic with maximum efficiency the cabinetry was designed, built and installed by Joinery Specialists
The clean, simple look of a minimalist kitchen can belie the planning required to achieve it. Besides presenting a pared-back aesthetic to surrounding living spaces, the kitchen also has to provide comprehensive functionality on a day-to-day basis.
No company knows this better than Joinery Specialists, an Otago firm creating custom cabinetry solutions for developers, architects, builders, and homeowners, says director Graeme Emmerson.
"This kitchen project, undertaken alongside O'Callaghan & Walker Builders, combines a minimalist aesthetic with practical surfaces," he says. "Creating a new home, the clients wanted the kitchen to form a backdrop to the living area and have an understated look that wouldn't detract from the greater space or the views."
The cabinetry, in two-pac black lacquer gloss, is matched with durable Laminex Cosmos benchtops and a glass splashback.
"We build cabinets to suit our clients' appliances in this case, the refrigerator is integrated into the cabinetry," Emmerson says. "Alongside this, there is an appliance centre, with bifold doors for easy access.
"Slender aluminium strip handles are recessed into the doors, accentuating the minimalist look this close attention to finishing detail is a hallmark of all our work."
