As the planet's resources shrink and awareness grows, sustainability is become a driving force in commercial design. A flooring product that grows like wildfire, is as hard as nails, and most importantly brings a lustrous presence to any room is an ideal ecological solution and aesthetic feature statement.

Eco Flooring Systems offers precision-machined, prefinished tongue-and-groove solid bamboo flooring for use in a variety of commercial and residential interiors, says director Paula Taylor.

"Bamboo floors are particularly well suited to high-traffic commercial environments such as restaurants, offices, and retail outlets," says Taylor. "As a result, they are receiving increased attention from architects, designers and specifiers particularly as it becomes clear that issues of sustainability are now integral to the building industry. Of course, the warmth and strength of bamboo carry equal pulling power."

Other aspects of Eco Flooring Systems' floors are also attractive from a designer's perspective. The floors are prefinished, using tough seven-layer German coating systems that are as eco-friendly as the material itself. This means there is little or no downtime on a retailer's trading hours, as there is no waiting for coats of varnish to dry. Safety is another consideration, particularly in a commercial environment, and finishes available include a non-slip texture specifically designed to meet Building Code of Australia requirements.

Eco Flooring Systems' bamboo floors are made by a manufacturer the company has relied on for over 12 years. There are 23 stringent control checks undertaken in the process, including everything from bamboo density and hardness, through to colour consistency and moisture content.

Design flexibility is another important factor for designers. The floors are available prefinished in gloss, satin or commercial or raw, for on-site staining. Accessories include stair nosings, edge moulds, skirtings and custom treads, as well as panels made to specification.
