As a company with more than 20 years in the industry, Steel Roofing was contracted to create the roofing, wall cladding and rainwater systems for the New Zealand Post building
The large scale and architectural quality of the
New Zealand Post building required contractors with specialised skills. When it came to the roofing, wall cladding and rainwater systems, Haydn & Rollett contracted Steel Roofing Ltd, a company with more than 20 years' experience in the construction industry.
The design and massive size of the building called for roof sheets up to 35m in length. The drape curved roofing was fixed on battens to allow for a continuous layer of insulation over the structure. This work was carried out in the spring, which meant the company faced challenges associated with high winds and sporadic rain.
The roofing material supplied by Roofing Industries Ltd was in a Maxispan profile with Zincalume finish. Maxispan is used in roofing applications where wide spanning and high water-carrying capacity are design requirements.
The wall cladding was supplied in Roofing Industries Multirib profile, pre-painted on Colorcote ZR8 by Pacific Coilcoaters in Gull Grey and Grey Flannel, and fixed horizontally between vertical break flashings. The installation of the wall cladding required close co-ordination between different contractors to ensure a quality finish where various elements were interfaced, and to meet deadline.
