Raising the bar

It may seem to defy logic, but designers havecreated a dishwasher that can cope with bigger loads than normal, without taking up extra space.

Asko Appliances has created the XXL dishwasher with a taller tank that allows for additional usable capacity, while the installation dimensions remain standard. This means that the footprint is the same as traditional dishwashers, says vice president of marketing Don Prevette.

"We designed the new XXL dishwashers with capacity, loading and flexibility in mind," he says. "Rather than having to run two loads, the homeowner can load all their dishes and large pans in the machine at the same time."

From the outside there is no clue that the dishwasher has capacity for up to 17 place settings, but inside, a storage system of four levels and six racks allows the homeowner to fill the machine with more dishes, including large pots and pans.

Three power zones provide a boost for hard-to clean items such as pans with baked on cheese or scrambled eggs, and a turbo fan system dries everything, even plasticware, eliminating the need for hand drying.

"Bigger items, such as a pizza pan or stock pot, can be washed alongside your other dishes, and the extra capacity makes it suitable for large families and for entertaining," says Prevette.

The dishwashers can be integrated into the kitchen cabinetry or treated as a design feature, with a stainless steel front, says Asko public relations coordinator Brittany Musacchio.

"The stainless steel dishwashers have a TouchProof finish, which virtually eliminates fingerprints and smudges," she says.
