Specifying long-lasting building products is a key sustainable design initiative. But this was just one reason Warren and Mahoney Architects specified German-manufactured Efaflex SST high speed spiral doors from High Speed Doors (NZ) Ltd for the new Supreme Court building.

Ross Le Breton of High Speed Doors (NZ) Ltd says the architects were familiar with the company's doors, having specified them on several other projects, including New Zealand Post buildings. The doors have also been specified for Online Security, Westland Milk Products and many other projects. "We have found that clients who have specified the Efaflex range of high speed doors on one project invariably opt for the same door on other projects," Le Breton says. "The reliability and speed of operation make a world of difference."

Le Breton says the Efaflex range of high speed spiral doors are engineered to cope with a high number of operations per day (up to 1000) and are particularly fast opening and closing. "These doors are available in lathe thicknesses of 40mm, 60mm and 80mm with 100mm soon to be available and are acoustically rated, insulated, intruder proof, weather resistant, and an economical solution."

For this project, two bronze-anodised doors were selected, one at 3m wide and the other 7m wide. Le Breton says the Efaflex SST door can be manufactured up to 10m high by 10m wide, and can withstand wind loadings in excess of 200kph. High Speed Doors also supplies standard roller shutter doors and Magnum domestic cedar sectional garage doors. The company has showrooms in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
