But there is an alternative solution. Saniflo pumps allow you to install water-using facilities, such as toilets, sinks and showers, away from, and even below, existing sewer lines. The pumps can dispose of waste to the main drains vertically up to 8m and horizontally up to 100m (or a lesser combination of both, depending on the model chosen). This defies traditional gravity-fed plumbing conventions, which means your design possibilities are greater.

The sewerage macerators and small bore pipes that carry the waste can be easily concealed in wall cavities or ceiling voids. This also means you won't need to undertake a major excavation or dig up your existing floor, which can involve expensive reinstatement.

Apartment and office blocks can also benefit from the small bore pumping technology, as renovations can be made without disrupting neighbours.
