Personal approach
Creating original designs that meet the needs of the client gives Cabinet Craft an edge
It is rare to find designers who will stick to their guns when it comes to design, instead of just going along with the trend of the day.
Dane MacKay from Cabinet Craft is such a designer and while he still pays attention to fashion and keeps up with new technology and accessories, he says speaking with clients and thinking outside the box are most important to his designs.
"I get a feel for my client's lifestyles, then I think if this was my place, what would I do?" he says.
MacKay has 20 years' experience in the cabinetry design field to lean on and Cabinet Craft has been in business for seven of those. The company designs, builds and installs all of its projects from scratch.
For the above design, MacKay created a crisp kitchen with strong, horizontal lines. The upper cabinetry and island bench have interior lights, which add a glowing aesthetic. MacKay says he lit the face side of the island to set it apart from the rest of the kitchen, while the upper lights add a soft feature to the storage spaces. Downlights illuminate a metallic back-painted glass splashback below.
"I do a lot of pondering before I sit down to design. I want things to be practical and fit together well," says MacKay.
