German products have an enviable reputation for their innovative design and styling, which is supported by the precision and quality of the manufacturing processes.

Now two iconic brands Poggenpohl and Porsche have teamed up to create the Porsche Design Kitchen P'7340 a design that combines the sleekness of a sports car with the functionality and practicality that we demand of today's kitchens.

The Porsche Design Kitchen has all the characteristics of high-end furniture and is built around an aluminum frame system with integrated lighting. This is the base for a modular approach that gives designers a high degree of flexibility in the layout of cabinetry and work surfaces.

The coolness of the aluminum frame is juxtaposed with the warmth of wood panels. These are available in textured Driftwood, a brushed pine, or a more finely brushed Dark Oak. Both are used as cross-grain veneers, a technique that emphasizes the kitchen's horizontal lines.

Slimline worktops are available in satin glass or black granite, fitting almost flush with the base unit. And back-lacquered glass cabinet fronts are also available in either a satin or high-gloss finish.

These materials and the design qualities of the P'7340 system allow the kitchen's aesthetics to easily extend into adjacent dining and living areas.

But this is not just a kitchen designed for good looks. It has a full range of accessories and inserts to allow the kitchen to function like an orderly toolbox. Made of dark oak with a thickness of just 5mm, the inserts include a range of modular cutlery trays, spice racks and protective knife blocks that can be combined to personalize your workspace.

One of the technological innovations of this kitchen is the smooth opening mechanism available for doors. A light touch is all that's needed to activate a motorized spacer pin that pushes the door open a few inches. From here, it can easily be opened manually, while the spacer pin automatically retracts back into the base unit.

Roland Heiler, managing director of Porsche Design Studio, says the P'7340 was designed to appeal to both male and female cooks in the home.

"While the number of female Porsche customers has increased markedly in recent years, a growing number of men have developed an interest in cooking," says Heiler.

"A Porsche offers a unique driving experience. And a premium kitchen like the P'7340 transforms the preparation of food into a special event."
