Out of the ordinary
To create a modern look, this home is clad with Ulltraclad weatherboards from Ullrich Aluminium
The choice of building materials and how they are combined strongly influence the style and character of a house.
Designer and builder Peter Williams of Taraby Homes wanted to create an interesting and different look for his new house.
"We saw Ulltraclad aluminium weatherboard cladding and thought it would be interesting to use because the profile of the boards suited the shape and style of this particular house," he says.
"Also, it is a long-lasting product that doesn't require regular repainting."
Taraby Homes finished the exterior of the home in Ulltraclad and for added interest, combined it with a fibre cement product, Eterpan, on the corners and soffits. Both products feature negative detailing, which contributes to the contemporary appearance of the house.
Russ Gray, building products division supervisor for Ullrich Aluminium, says another key feature of BRANZ-appraised Ulltraclad is the way air circulates behind it, allowing it to breathe and eliminating rot problems.
