Maintaining a high level of security while allowing easy egress as needed is a double conundrum for many businesses. For Lion Nathan, the country's largest producer of alcoholic beverages, being able to ship product from the warehouse in a timely fashion is a key component of its business.

Albany Door Systems New Zealand, formerly Envico Doors, was tasked with providing a range of doors that would suit the individual needs of each area of the Lion Nathan warehouse, says general manager Murray Williams.

"Each area within the site has a different requirement, which was reflected in the door specifications, including external security doors and high-speed environmental doors available as high-performance single or combo door systems. Because we design and manufacture, we were able to customise each system as needed," says Williams.

For example, radars with both motion and infrared detection were installed on all high-speed doors, but with the addition of a ground loop activation system on all doors.

Another prime factor was safety, especially where ethanol was of concern, says Williams. "The ethanol BPR area has an intrinsic safety (IS) requirement, which dictates special zone and class criteria. Our Envico brand systems are earning a reputation as a product that can be modified to suit any environment, which is what we did in this instance, working with the specifications laid down by Beca, Mainzeal and Lion Nathan."
