Until recently, it was a complex job to install gas fires in multi-storey apartments. But changing technology means this option can now be specified for any project

The lure of a fire to warm and enliven our living spaces remains as strong as ever, and a gas fire is an attractive option for both residential and commercial projects. But while specifying a gas fire may be straightforward, the complexities of fitting the fire can be daunting, says Escea's Nigel Bamford.

The real problem comes when fitting gas fires into multi-storey apartments, where flues typically terminate through the roof, he says.

"With an Escea fire, you can terminate the flue on a vertical wall next to the fire, rather than on the roof. This avoids the problem of routing flues through other apartments, and having roof flues that raise the height plane of the building."

Escea's gas fires have attracted interest from developers and architects keen to install practical, energy-efficient heating systems, Bamford says.

"They are also a popular choice for high-end restaurant and hotel projects, where a distinctive and welcoming ambience is needed."
