Companies are increasingly wanting to walk the talk when it comes to sustainable design. And incorporating natural ventilation is high on the list of green alternatives with good reason. Natural ventilation provides lower capital costs, lower maintenance costs and ongoing energy savings.

Window Control Systems specialises in the supply and installation of German-manufactured D+H Mechatronic automated window drives for natural ventilation.

Special projects manager Martin Kamphuis says each project requires a different custom solution.

"Our consultants determine the most suitable type of window drives for a project, calculate the quantities required, and design the layout of the zones for the control cabinets. This involves liaising with our overseas supplier and the electrical contractors for the projects."

Kamphuis says the products are relatively new to New Zealand, so the company ensures specifiers fully understand their purpose and functionality.

"D+H Mechatronic electric window drives are made from die cast metal with a powdercoated finish. All materials used in their construction are designed for a long life, and a minimum of 10,000 operations. The control panels are custom built with modular plug-in circuit boards that allow buildings to be zoned floor-by-floor and space-by-space. This means occupants can customise their individual settings. Timers and controls for temperature, rain and wind ensure comfort all year round without the need for air conditioning."
