Most people living in one of today's bustling cities would have mused about the benefits of working from home during the daily commute to work. While for most that dream will always remain elusive, for builder John Macdonald it is an enviable reality.

"What better way to prove to your clients that you believe in your own product than to actually live and work in that environment," says Macdonald, owner of John S Macdonald Builders.

His American-style, Firth Masonry Villa home sits on a 2500m2 section and incorporates family living, separate guest accommodation and offices.

"The offices are situated above the three-car garage and have their own entrance and kitchen. As well as being our home, the house is also a showhome for potential clients," says Macdonald.

Masonry offers a number of benefits, such as durability and energy-costs savings. It is also a highly versatile building material allowing for any design type from traditional to contemporary and everything in between, says Macdonald.

"Masonry also gives you the flexibility to incorporate other materials, such as timber elements, to achieve the personalised look you want."

With more than 20 years' experience, John S Macdonald Builders has secured a solid reputation based on knowledge and customer service.

"We carry out a free site visit and consultation with our clients to discuss their budget and personal requirements, and we provide ideas for unique features for their home.
