When you love to entertain, it makes sense to have everything on tap. For the owners of this new house, that included the beer an old English pub-style bar was right at the top of their wish list.

Fyfe Kitchens was contracted to design and manufacture all the joinery for the house, which included the bar, kitchen, library, laundry and bathroom vanities.

Designer Lyness Kerr says the joinery throughout the house needed to reflect the owners' desire for a traditional interior. In the kitchen, painted cabinets featuring recessed panel doors and lamb's tongue panelling were specified.

"The traditional look is enhanced by the washed paint finish of the cabinetry, the textured profile tiles on the splashback and the Giallo Vitoria granite benchtops from Stone Warehouse," the designer says.

To cater to the owners' entertaining requirements, there is plenty of bench space, two sinks for food preparation and cleanup, and a scullery with an additional refrigerator and ice-maker.

But the catering facilities are not limited to the kitchen. The bar is also equipped with a refrigerator with ice-maker and dishwasher, as well as a wine refrigerator and beer keg chiller.

The bar itself, which is in a room with large wood beams and a replica pressed metal ceiling, is strongly reminiscent of an old English pub. With its stained oak panels, turned poles, curved steel foot rail, mirrors and display shelving, it conveys a sense of intimacy, warmth and bonhomie.

"Every detail was designed to enhance the traditional pub ambience," says Kerr. "It was also designed to ensure everything was positioned right where it is needed, from the glassware to the drinks."

The library features similar stained oak cabinetry, panelling and shelving, and incorporates a niche for a television.

Kerr says the bathrooms have painted vanity units with traditional panel doors similar to those in the kitchen.
