Recreational options are myriad at the many coastal waterways locations by Hopper Developments
Spending a day out in the boat is idyllic enough, but its even more enjoyable when you can then moor in front of your house and wander in with the day's catch.
Hopper Developments has been creating residential and lifestyle projects in coastal areas of New Zealand since 1953. More recently, these have included comprehensively planned high-end waterway developments, which comprise residential land and housing projects with a town centre.
Lee Hopper, chief executive of Hopper Developments, says because construction around water uses a different skill set from other kinds of civil construction, the company created a sister company, Hopper Construction, for its waterways projects.
"Having our own construction company gives us the ability to implement high standards, rather than stand in a queue awaiting tenders from construction companies who are more price sensitive," says Hopper.
Employing more than 40 staff, Hopper Construction carries an extensive range of plant and equipment to carry out earth works, road construction, drainage and a full scope of subdivision work.
All Hopper Developments' projects follow the common principles of detailed planning, with particular attention paid to preserving the natural environment.
Hopper Developments is also passionate about ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards landscaping included. The result is a development that will continue to look good for years to come.
Whitianga Waterways is a prime example. Situated 2½ hours from Auckland City, this is New Zealand's largest canal housing project. Currently under construction, Whitianga Waterways will contain New Zealand's first retirement village built on the water.
"The village will comprise multi-storey apartments and stand-alone villas. It will have its own little beach and recreation facilities," says Hopper.
Included in the project will be an international-standard tourist hotel, waterfront apartments, an airfield precinct, boat harbour and retail island. This will be accessible by boat or footbridge, providing nightlife and shopping opportunities, and a medical centre.
Residents and holiday-makers at Whitianga Waterways can choose to drive, fly or boat to their homes.
