Light up your life
A complementary lighting scheme ensures the lush atmosphere of this entry garden is as appealing at night as it is during the day
An effective lighting scheme doesn't try to recreate daylight, but instead evokes a different atmosphere for night.
This was the aim of landscape lighting and garden designer Jenny Pullar when designing this garden.
A member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of Australia and New Zealand, she chose a lighting scheme that would highlight the garden's features after dark.
Rather than directly illuminating the footpaths and stairs that lead to the home, Pullar placed just five lights among the trees and plants.
"I position lights to focus on a garden's features. Illumination from well-placed lamps will reflect into the rest of the garden," she says. "And green filters accentuate the lushness of the foliage."
IES is a group that aims to advance the art and science of illumination and provide information thereon.
