Key bathroom trends from Mico Bathrooms
Bathrooms may once have been one of the last rooms to consider when planning a new home or renovation. But that is no longer the case today a beautiful bathroom is right at the top of the list.
And that is not the only trend noticed by the team at Mico Bathrooms. Design manager Hamish Kofoed points to several trends emerging over the past couple of years.
"Space optimisation is often a priority, with designers and homeowners looking to maximise every square metre of the bathroom," he says. "There is plenty of product development relating to innovative storage and shelving, and bathtubs that fit end to end with walls. There are now many clever, space-saving solutions that also enhance the aesthetics of the bathroom."
Kofoed says another key trend is the growth of intuitive functionality.
"We are seeing a lot more iPad-style control systems for bathrooms and kitchens, and this is obviously going to increase. Digital control pads can be used for high-tech showers for example. In the not-too-distant future, there will be soft-touch controls on mirrors, which will control a wide range of systems, from lighting and dehumidifying to ventilation."
Kofoed says eco trends are also changing. In the past, consumer decisions were often influenced by water and power restrictions. Today, they are more likely to buy eco-friendly products because they can save money.
"Bathroom products that can reduce water costs are especially sought after."
Individualising is another key trend, with designers and homeowners more likely to opt for a custom-designed bathroom. This in turn has influenced product ranges.
"Versatility has determined the Mico Bathrooms range," says Kofoed. "For example, we may offer a basin in eight different sizes, or a particular basin design in a number of different formats, such as pedestal, wall hung or surface mounted."
In terms of colour trends, Kofoed says monochromatic looks, whites and neutrals continue to dominate customer choices. Contrasting light and dark surfaces are often used to make a strong statement.
Kofoed says staff in all the stores are fully versed in the latest design trends and the functionality of the various products.
"They can help clients find the best solution for their project, no matter what style or budget they are working to."
Mico Bathrooms is more than a one-stop shop for homeowners, however. It is also used by the trade to source high-end bathroom products.
With 90 branches spread nationwide, and showrooms from Whangarei to Invercargill, Mico Bathrooms stores are within reach of virtually every household.
