When you live in a home for many years, it can be difficult to wrench yourself away even when it no longer suits your needs. One way of getting around this is to remodel.

After 10 years, the owners of this old Tudor-style home decided they would remodel rather than leave the neighborhood. They chose MA Peterson to manage their remodeling project from architectural and build, through to landscape and interior design.

The original house, built in 1924, was small and offered very little storage. MA Peterson owner and chief designer Mark Peterson says the remodeling project mainly involved reworking the interior spaces, but also added another 500sq ft to the property.

The kitchen was modernized and a mudroom added to provide storage and a sense of entry. The family room was remodeled for improved comfort.

Upstairs, the master bedroom suite was updated and a walk-in closet added.

The basement was altered to provide more storage and versatility, including the addition of an egress window for more light. This space was designed so another bedroom could be added in the future.

A bigger garage with an easy-access storage loft was dug into the hillside, and a new driveway put in.

A mosaic stone retaining wall made from Chilton, Desert Bronze and Minnesota Dolomite was also added to provide usable yard space and a colored concrete patio.

"We touched almost everything, including repainting nearly every wall inside, installing new stucco on theoutside, and replacing all the windows," says Peterson. "Besides the major work, we performed minor nips and tucks all over. In many ways it was simply an older home that needed to be updated. The features needed to be modernized and enhanced to meet the needs of today's family. In short, we created a living space that matched the personality of the homeowners so they could enjoy their home."

The owners say they now have a new home that fits their needs. "We are still trying to find our new rhythm in this house, but we know it has everything we need. There's so much quality and beauty surrounding us, but nothing is excessive. It's perfect for us."

The MA Peterson team includes designers, architects, interior designers, CAD draftsmen, project managers, carpenters and landscape designers.
