Italian design and manufacturing haslong been associated with high-end products. But can these designs created for small European bedrooms and kitchens work for an American market?

Serge Belferman of Prestige Designs believes the answer is yes. Prestige Designs is the United States distributor for Italian furniture producer Dall'Agnese.

"Their range of classical and modern modular wardrobe systems is well suited to the American home," he says.

For many years associated with classical Italian furniture, Dall'Agnese has recently extended its range.

"A few years ago, the company introduced modern pieces, and these are now available in the United States," he says.

The modular wardrobe systems are available as either an open-shelf system, suitable for apartments or smaller homes, or a closet with doors, for a furniture-like appearance. The systems are available in wood veneers, lacquers and glass.

Customers receive a home visit from a representative of Prestige Designs, followed by a computer-generated design within 48 hours.

Prestige Designs is also the US distributor for Copat Kitchens, a high-end designer and manufacturer of modern and classic Italian kitchens. The clean-lined kitchen shown above is from the company's contemporary collection.

Copat kitchens are made in Italy from environmentally friendly local materials.

"Copat Kitchens has just been awarded the European Union's EMAS certificate, as evidence of its green practices only a few kitchen manufacturers have received this award. The company also has the UNI EN ISO 9001 quality system certification, which reflects its rigorous quality standards," says Belferman.

Customers can view the kitchen and wardrobe systems at Prestige Designs' 5000sq ft showroom in Chicago.
