Invisible seal
It is possible to prolong the life of porous materials such as sandstone, paving or tiles without changing their natural look or feel
If you appreciate the natural look of sandstone, travertine or granite, it makes sense to protect these porous materials, without changing their appearance.
All porous materials draw in liquids, which can cause staining and even permanent damage, says Gabriel Chapman of Australian company Dry-Treat.
"Marks from food and drink spills can be hard to clean or even permanent," he says. "Water is another problem, whether from your pool, the ground or a concrete base. Water is full of dissolved minerals which can rot, stain and break up a porous surface."
To meet the need for a sealer that prolongs the life of porous surfaces without changing their colour or finish, Dry-Treat developed a range of sealers including Stain-Proof. The science is complex, but the results are simple, says Chapman.
"Instead of a glossy artificial surface, Dry-Treat sealers are invisible. Tiny molecules penetrate and bond permanently inside the pores without blocking them. This creates a deep protective barrier that will last for up to 15 years before another application is needed."
The Stain-Proof sealer has been used for international projects such as the new BBC Scotland headquarters, the Samsung Museum in Seoul and the Police Memorial in Canberra. The sealer is backed by a 15-year written warranty, if it is applied by an accredited company.
