Technical developments in the way aluminium is used in the auto-motive industry have resulted in today's cars being lighter, faster and more energy efficient, and this theme has been highlighted in the gleaming, perforated aluminium facade on the front of the new Audi Terminal building.Commercial sheetmetal manufacturing company Ashworth & Taylor undertook to produce and install the perforated aluminium facade for the new Audi showroom in Auckland.Managing director Bruce Taylor says, "Our objective here was to exceed the international standards of quality and finish imposed by Audi AG in Germany for all Audi showrooms around the world, while also completing the project to meet our own high standards of quality and competitiveness." The aluminum facade and metal work was done by Ashworth & Taylor for this Audi terminal. To achieve this, 600 sheets of punched and folded 2mm 5005 aluminium were anodised to 25 micros by the company in its Auckland manufacturing plant. One challenge posed by this project was to ensure all panels in the facade were the exact same shade of natural silver, with no variations. Accordingly, Ashworth & Taylor sourced the entire requirement from Mico Metals NZ.As part of its brief for this project, Ashworth & Taylor also manufactured and installed the vestibule linings inside and outside the showroom, and custom made the stainless steel drain gratings around the exterior of the building.ASHWORTH & TAYLOR The aluminum facade and metal work was done by Ashworth & Taylor for this Audi terminal.
